Branagh Replaces Bender On Jack Ryan Reboot

News has broken that the new Jack Ryan movie has found a new director after Jack Bender vacated the project last week. His replacement will be Brit-stalwart Kenneth Branagh, who last summer showed he was capable of helming a big-budget blockbuster when Marvel’s THOR became a huge hit.

Branagh was the surprise choice for THOR, the actor and director was more famed for bringing Shakespeare’s works to screen and the much-maligned MARY SHELLEY’S FRANKENSTEIN. Paramount obviously feel he’s the right man to take over the project with a decision that comes rather soon after the news of Bender’s exit.

Tom Clancy’s CIA analyst and all-round American hero, has been portrayed by Alec Baldwin in THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER (1990), Harrison Ford in PATRIOT GAMES (1992) and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER (1994) and finally Ben Affleck in THE SUM OF ALL FEARS (2002).

STAR TREK and THIS MEANS WAR’s Chris Pine is already on-board to play Clancy’s patriotic icon in the as-yet-untitled action-thriller.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
