The Evil Dead Remake Now Has A Cast

Fede Alverez’s remake of Sam Raimi’s classic gorefest THE EVIL DEAD had previously announced MIRROR MIRROR beauty Lily Collins as the lead until scheduling conflicts denied her the role. Now we finally have news of a new lead, along with news of the supporting cast that will eventually unearth the horrors of the Necronomicon.

US SHAMELESS starlet Jane Levy will replace Collins in the role of Mia, a recovering drug addict who travels to the infamous cabin as a detox program. Playing her friends will be CLOVERFIELD’s Jessica Lucas, RED RIDING HOOD’s Shiloh Fernandez, and rising stars Lou Taylor Pucci and Elizabeth Blackmore.

To be fair to the (yet another) remake, the new script appears to be almost a new story, with the previous character of Ash (the legendary Bruce Campbell) now nowhere to be seen, making a bit of originality a possibility. The original writer/director Sam Raimi will produce alongside long-term partner Robert Tapert and Campbell.

Shooting begins April in New Zealand, for a release expected 12th April 2013.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
