‘Safe House 2’ In The Works

After the success of SAFE HOUSE earlier this year, writer David Guggenheim has been asked back by Universal to pen a sequel. SAFE HOUSE saw a young and bored CIA agent (Ryan Reynolds), whose only job was to sit and wait in case his phone ever rang, thrown into an action packed and dangerous situation when former agent/traitor Denzel Washington was brought to his SAFE HOUSE. The film made $202 million worldwide on a production budget of $85 million. Ryan Reynolds will likely return, especially considering SAFE HOUSE was one of his only real genuine hits of the last few years. Guggenheim wrote the script as a spec when he was still an Editor at Us Weekly. He has since gone on to sell a numberof scripts which are in or heading for production including one that was said to be the late Tony Scott’s next film.

SAFE HOUSE was an enjoyable enough thriller with some excellent action set pieces and practical effects. Unfortunately it became too concerned with offering twists and turns that were just too obvious. I wouldn’t rush out to see a sequel, but I’d certainly be interested in watching it on DVD.
