It is with great sadness that we report the death of another legend at such a young age. Singer and actress Whitney Houston passed away in a Beverly Hills hotel shortly before 4pm Los Angeles time yesterday afternoon (11th February). She was just 48 years old.
“She has been positively identified by friends and family that were with her at the hotel, and next of kin have already been notified,” Lieutenant Mark Rosen from Beverly Hills police told reporters outside the Beverly Hills Hotel where she was found. Houston was in town for the Grammy awards, which take place in LA tonight.
The reason for her death is as yet known, but is not thought to be suspicious, although police are investigating the cause.
Houston will always be remembered as a 200 million album-selling recording artist, but she will be remembered amongst the movie community for a variety of roles, including her most popular as Rachel Marron opposite Kevin Costner in the 1992 film THE BODYGUARD, a remake of which is currently in the works. She also appeared in the films WAITING TO EXHALE and THE PREACHER’S WIFE, both of which were well received in the mid-1990’s. Houston is also set to appear in SPARKLE, a film due to be released in the UK in September which revolves around ‘three sisters who form a successful singing group and must deal with the fallout of fame and drugs.’ Her role of Emma in that film will be her last screen appearance.
It will however, as we previously stated, be her music that she will be remembered for and although her film credits are few, her greatest role was the that in THE BODYGUARD, a part that combined the best of her talents. Our thoughts go out to her family, friends and the millions of fans around the world. Rest In Peace.
Here’s a clip from THE BODYGUARD.
