It was previously reported on THN and now it’s been confirmed that Ridley Scott will direct Cormac McCarthy’s first spec Screenplay THE COUNSELOR. What makes this extra special is the big names already being lined up from the writer who brought us NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and THE ROAD. The in-demand Michael Fassbender is high up the list and his work with Scott on PROMETHEUS could be a good guide for the possibility of them teaming up again.
THE COUNSELOR is focuses on a powerful lawyer who is involved with the drug industry but, as expected, things being to go very wrong. It’s set in contemporary south-west America, in a masculine world where two woman begin to take leading roles. Producer Steve Schwartz had this to say about the intoxicating script: “Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. McCarthy’s wit and humour in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of Cormac’s most disturbing and powerful works.”
It seems to be on the fast track to being made but as this is very much in development at the moment, we can only wait to see what characters McCarthy has envisioned this time and we look forward to the results!
