After eight years of governing one of the biggest states in the USA, Arnold Schwarzenneger has decided it’s time to take a break from the big city. He’s accepted a position as Sherriff of a quiet southern town – in new action film THE LAST STAND.
The film sounds more or less like a remake of HIGH NOON – Sherriff Arnold finds out a gang of bad guys are headed to his town, wants no part of it but has to face up to his responsibility. But the plot’s not massively important – the big screen misses Schwarzenneger, and this seems like a fun enough way to get him back. With his ongoing legal issues, this may even be his first weighty movie role since TERMINATOR THREE. He will be joined by Luis Guzman (BOOGIE NIGHTS), Forest Whitaker (FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH) and, of all people, Johnny Knoxville (THE RINGER).
The director is Korean action maestro Kim Jee-Woon (A TALE OF TWO SISTERS). The production will be shepherded by Lionsgate, who apparently began the shoot just yesterday. As Schwarzenneger’s other movie plans have come to a standstill, it is believable that Lionsgate and co intend on getting this film out as quickly as possible. The Arnie-Returning-To Acting sell is a big one.
