Warwick Davis And Anthony Daniels Duel At Star Wars Blu-Ray Party

While stood at the main entrance of the BT Tower, an ominous shadow falls across the awaiting press. The Shadow of the Empire. For Darth Vader, Boba Fett and numerous Storm Troopers march towards us, leading the way for various celebs to come and party, in celebration of the STAR WARS saga being released on Blu-Ray this Monday. Here’s what I learned at this shindig:

ANTHONY DANIELS IS NOT THE PRIMA DONNA WE MIGHT EXPECT.

Far from it, he seems like a lovely dude, eager to discuss all things Star Wars. He joked about how he could barely walk or see in his C-3PO suit, but while filming in the desert, he felt like a shining golden deity.

WARWICK DAVIS IS A BADASS.

Standing at the same height as the amazing working R2-D2 replica beside him, he swung his lightsaber in a very gung-ho fashion, proclaiming he never got to use one on set, so he was planning on milking the experience. He and Daniels even had a mock duel, casting epic battle shadows as the photographers bulbs flashed.

FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHERS HATE CHARLOTTE CHURCH.

All the Pappers standing in front of me spent most of the evening bitching about Charlotte Church. Why? Because, get this right, she had the temerity, the gall, the utter nerve to NOT stand where they wanted her to for a sustained period of time. I KNOW! How DARE she want to move on to the party instead of posing with Darth Vader for an excruciating amount of time while being bellowed at by camera wielding yobs. Who does she think she is?!

THE PRESENTERS OF NEWSROUND ARE UTTERLY SPLENDID.

Sonali Shah and Ore Oduba of Newsround were the highlight of the non-Star Wars guests, as both were great sports, talking to various journalists, posing and having a gay old time. Shah even assumed the classic Leah ‘Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi’ pose, kneeling next to R2D2, and getting her friend to take a pic for her as she wanted to Tweet about it straight away. Oduba showed his mad skillz, swishing a lightsaber, mimicking the sound perfectly and doing a not too shabby Chewie impression. He said being here and meeting the cast of Star Wars made him feel like a big kid. Amen, brother.

THE BT TOWER IS THE WORLDS LARGEST LIGHTSABER.

At 8.00, the BT Tower shone an immensely powerful beam of blue light into the sky,  thus becoming the world’s largest lightsaber. It was a fitting way to end the evening, and the force was strong in Central London tonight.

STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA is available on Blu-ray now
