Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson has met Marvel about playing Luke Cage

I am probably not the best person to talk about comic book movie adaptations here on the site as there are much more knowledgable peeps at THN (Fordy, Joe, Paul Koren) who know way more than I do, but I’m going to try and forge an opinion here. Okay, so Quinton Rampage Jackson, the dude who took over the part of BA Baracus in the rather lackluster big-screen remake of THE A-TEAM last year, has apparently been in talks to play a character named Luke Cage in a new Marvel movie based on the popular comic book character.

The beans were spilled today by  Jackson giving a recent interview. The man was asked if he would consider playing a comic book character, to which he replied:

“That’s kind of crazy. I actually had a meeting with Marvel a long time ago about… I don’t know if I can say that. I would love to play Luke Cage, I think I would be a perfect Luke Cage. I think I would be a very believable Luke Cage. I don’t think there’s anyone out there who would be a more believable Luke Cage than me.”

I repeat the words – a long time ago. So, Jackson thinks he’s the best person to play this part. I actually quite liked him in the role of BA – a difficult role to play, but is a big Marvel superhero movie a tad large for the UFC champion at the moment? Granted, you don’t need a name to pull off and bank a decent buck for a film like this (as Chris Hemsworth showed with THOR), but Jackson has just one big movie credit? I am totally unfamiliar with the character of Cage, but after two minutes of online research, he certainly has the phsyique to pull it off…

Let me throw another name into the hat… David Haye? After all, the British boxer has made it known that he wants to act after he retires later in the year? Okay, you’re right – I’ll stop posting comic book related stuff and leave it to the experts. You can see the full Jackson interview at the end of the link above.
