More Oldboy remake rumours

Twitchfilm have posted a report that the Hollywood remake of classic Korean revenge flick, OLDBOY, has a new director in talks and that being Spike Lee.

The remake came underfire from the fans when announced in 2008 due to the attached team of Steven Spielberg and Will Smith, who where possibly looking to direct or produce and have Smith star. One of the issues surrounding the remake was, which some fans didn’t seem to understand, it wouldn’t, technically, be a remake of Park Chan-wook’s film but a more faithfully adaptation of the original manga by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi. Matters weren’t helped with talk of exchanging elements such as eating the live octopus to eating a whole burrito, obviously pointing at the direction Hollywood wanted it to go. However with Spike Lee’s name thrown into the mix this gives hope in having a more faithfully or worthwhile reinterpretation produced.

It is unsure at this point whether Will Smith is still involved as he is in talks for Quentin Tarantino’s DJANGO UNCHAINED film. The film is set up with Mandate with Doug Davison and Roy Lee on producing duty and Mark Protosevich (THOR) writing.

Paul finished is BA in Film & Broadcast Productions during the summer and has somehow landed the position of Media & Marketing Manager in the London Korean Film Festival happening this November (plug). While at University Paul found his speciality lay in Script Development, scriptwriting and Editing. He has written, edited and director a small number of not very good short films but does not let that dissuade him from powering through. After the Koreans are through with him he looks to enter the paid world of Script Development. He likes incredibly bad horror films, East Asian movies, comics and lots of other stuff.
