Second teaser trailer: THE SKIN I LIVE IN-Aldomovar

It’s getting harder and harder to play ‘guess the director’ these days, at least without the help of a 10 foot promo poster. Thankfully, the ever distinctive work of Spanish born Pedro Aldomovar, creator of VOLVER and ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER is set for an all consuming return this year. Aldomovar has been largely under the radar since 2009, plugging away at soon-to-be-released THE SKIN I LIVE IN, which showcases his first collaboration with Antonio Banderas in over 20 years. The two last collaborated for the bizarre black comedy, TIE ME UP. TIME ME DOWN!

The first teaser for THE SKIN I LIVE IN was released back in may, revealing what looked like an avant garde episode of Nip/Tuck.

Banderas plays the part of a plastic surgeon who’s obsession with creating an invulnerable form of human skin leads his research down a sadistic path. His guinea pig is the impossibly beautiful Elena Anaya (Talk to her/Sex and Lucia) whom he keeps as a disturbingly willing prisoner in his home.

Like many an Aldomovar picture, THE SKIN I LIVE IN has been met with incomparably high expectations. But after receiving 4 stars from the hard-to-please Peter Bradshaw’s Cannes 2011 review, chances are it may well deliver.

This second trailer instalment reveals little else, but even these few frames show a commanding performance from Banderas. With any luck, this could see the bull back on form after a long foray into saccharine duds like SHREK FOREVER AFTER and SPY KIDS 4.

Come back El Mariachi, the world of cinema needs you more than a precocious cat with funny shoes.
