Simon West, director of this week’s high-octane actioner THE MECHANIC, has revealed in an interview promoting that movie, that he would love to make a sequel to his debut feature CON AIR.
Speaking to CraveOnline, West said: “I’d like to do… ‘Con Air 2’,” West says.
The original starred the likes of John Malkovich, John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo, Dave Chappelle, Monica Potter and obviously Nicolas Cage.
“It’d be great,” West continues, “It’s a matter of getting everybody together. There’s so many people involved and it’s about getting everybody to agree. But I’m going to bring it up to Nic. I’m going to put a bug in his ear about it. If the two of us want to do it, we’ll go after the others.”
CON AIR was also the very first film that Jerry Bruckheimer produced without his partner Don Simpson. In it, Cage played the character of Cameron Poe, a US Marine who was imprisoned for killing a drunk outside a bar in self defence. The movie revolved around a plane designed to carry hardcore criminals from point A to point B. Poe himself was a passenger on said plane, hitching a ride home to see his wife and daughter that had never before met. It was all high-octane nonsense, but I always have time to watch the film when it plays on TV. Oh, and this song featured on the soundtrack…
So, would you like to see a CON AIR 2?
