Bad news for comic book fans holding out hope for a cross-over between their two beloved DC characters. From the horses mouth… it’s not happening.
It almost happened twice in the last decade. In 2002, Warner Bros. greenlit BATMAN VS SUPERMAN a crossover film to be directed by Wolfgang Petersen. That project was canceled when the studio opted to reboot both characters separately, a plan which worked incredibly for BATMAN and not so well for SUPERMAN.
That project never came to fruition, but since Christopher Nolan is a Producer on the new SUPERMAN reboot, fans would be forgiven for thinking there might be some franchise crossover potential.
Not so, producer Charles Roven tells Shock Till You Drop, “Right now BATMAN lives in his world and SUPERMAN lives in his world. Those stories are those stories and we haven’t thought beyond each individual picture.” Roven also says that THE DARK KNIGHT RISES will be the concluding film: “As far as we all know, this is it. This is the trilogy, the third part of what Chris created and we’re not looking past that.”
