Clooney to star in U.N.C.L.E film?

Hollywood mega-star George Clooney is in talks to star in a big screen version of cult 1960s TV show MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., according to reports across the internet.

The actor has met director Steven Soderbergh, with whom he has worked before, about starring as Napoleon Solo in the film about two crime-fighting secret agents. The film is still in early development but it is thought the film will retain its 1960s setting.

The original TV series, which ran from 1964 to 1968, starred Robert Vaughn in the lead role of Napoleon Solon and British actor David McCallum also starred as Illya Illya Kuryakin, working as part of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement, fighting the evil organisation Thrush.

But with Soderbergh and Clooney still very busy with other projects, it may a be a while before the project comes together. Soderbergh is currently shooting thriller CONTAGION starring Matt Damon, Jude Law and Marion Cotillard, while Clooney is working on THE IDES OF MARCH which he is directing and starring in alongside Ryan Gosling, Paul Giamatti and Marisa Tomei.

Clooney is too damn old to play Napoleon Solo. Geeze, can we get an actor in the right age group (early to mid thirties) for the role?

Seriously! Solo was in his 30s, not 50 something. Plus mandatory pull from field work age was 40, how are they going to pull this off if Solo is 50 something and still in the field 10 years after he was supposed to be a desk jockey?

I can live with the movie if it’s done well like Star Trek and Get Smart, but I can’t suspend reality enough to watch a 50+ actor playing a 30 something role, especially when that 50 something actor looks much older than 30 something.
