Fugees rapper Wyclef Jean has announced that he is to run for President of his birthplace, Haiti. Jean has formally registered to stand for president of the earthquake stricken country after registering in Port Au Prince, the capital on Thursday.

“It’s a moment in time and in history,” Jean said. “It’s very emotional.”

Haiti is struggling to rebuild itself after a devastating earthquake killed around 300,000 people.
