This year Arrow Video Frightfest leaves its teens behind as it turns twenty. Yep this year marks two decades of horror-themed entertainment taking over a West End cinema over the late August Bank Holiday. What was once a small one-day affair has now grown into four full days, plus a preview evening, of programming that embraces the dark heart of cinema. This year’s festival will run from Thursday 22nd August until Monday 26th August 2019.

Over the years, films such as Pan’s LabyrinthOldboy and The Guest have opened the festival, with The MachinistTrain to Busan and Climax closing proceedings. They’re all pretty tough acts to follow, but the Frightfest team think they might have just managed it as today they announce the two films that will open and close their big birthday event.

Kicking the festivities off in style will be Come to Daddy, directed by Ant Timpson the film stars Elijah Wood as a man who journeys to a remote cabin to reconnect with his estranged father. This is Timpson’s debut feature film but he has produced several past Frightfest films including Turbo Kid and Deathgasm so he knows exactly what the festival goers enjoy. The celebrations will end on a high with A Good Woman is Hard to Find from Road Games director Abner Pastoll. The story follows a recently widowed mother who goes to some extreme lengths to protect her children.

So far it looks like Frightfest are off to a good start, with a lot more good stuff being teased on their social channels. The full line-up of films will follow on Thursday 4th July, with festival passes going on sale on Saturday 6th July.
