A couple of outlets have released images of Julianne Moore in the forthcoming Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Moore plays the villain of the piece, Poppy, in the forthcoming sequel which releases in cinemas later this year.
Entertainment Weekly scored the following image of the actress in the role, as well as adding some comments from co-writer/ director Matthew Vaughn, who commented on the creation of the new character. Here’s the image, followed by what he had to say.
“For this film, I needed a performer who could fill the shoes of Sam Jackson without any sense of intimidation. And someone who could make this character pretty insane but at the same time real. And though Kingsman is hopefully a big popcorn film, I love to put fantastic, brilliant, Oscar-winning talent like Julianne Moore into crazy environments. That’s when we get magic happening.”
Vaughn describes Poppy as ‘Martha Stewart on crack’.“She’s America’s sweetheart gone wrong,” he said to Empire, who have another shot of the actress in the movie.
“I thought it would be fun to see her play this kooky, sweet, Stepford Wives-style villain that, at the same time, is lethal and crazy and intelligent,” Vaughn added. “Julianne is a fascinating actress. She can play wholesome so well, but also pretty crazy and tough. She was in my head as I was writing.”
Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Channing Tatum, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Pedro Pascal, Jeff Bridges and even Sir Elton John also star in the sequel.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle arrives in cinemas on 20th September, 2017.
