R.I.P. Powers Boothe; Celebrated character actor dies at the age of 68

It is with regret that we must report the passing of celebrated character actor Powers Boothe, who has died at the age of 68. Boothe died in his sleep on Sunday morning from natural causes, so reports Variety.

Boothe enjoyed a four decade career that saw him mould into a variety of roles on the big and small screen. The actor was most recently known for the character Senator Roarke in Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City (2005) and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014). He also appeared in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers as Gideon Malick, a role he would reprise in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for 11 episodes last year. He’s also voiced Gorilla Grodd in the animated Justice League and Justice League Unlimited.

Boothe also appeared as Vice President Noah Daniels in the hit TV series 24, as well as in Oliver Stone’s U Turn and the Jean Claude Van Damme action vehicle Sudden Death as Joshua Fossback in 1995 (above).
