Has the next Bond director been found?

Well, in short, no. However, it looks like new directors are being considered and one of them is at the forefront of conversation is none other that Gangster No. 1, Sherlock and Lucky Number Slevin helmer Paul McGuigan.

The news of the Scottish helmer’s potential consideration comes via the pages of Indiewire who say that the producers are really rather impressed with McGuigan’s latest Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool. The film, which will be released by Lionsgate, stars Annette Bening and Jamie Bell and revolves around a romance which sparks between a young actor and a Hollywood leading lady.

According to Indiewire, the director, whose last work was Victor Frankenstein, is reportedly ‘under consideration’ for the high-profile Bond gig, following on from Sam Mendes, who helmed the last two films in the series, the massively successful Skyfall and SPECTRE. Obviously, there has been no word from the McGuigan camp as the whether he’d want the job, or if he has been approached.

Screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade are currently hard at work on the screenplay for the next film in the series, which is actually the 25th official Bond movie.

We’ll obviously keep you informed on any updates.
