There are some movies that simply cannot be remade. Ever. Two at the forefront of discussion today are E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial and Back To The Future. The producer of both of those movies, Frank Marshall, has been speaking to Yahoo! Movies that he will never, ever give permission for a redo of either.

“Yeah [we won’t reboot Back to The Future], as long as I have my say. No, that one exists just like E.T. – we’re never touching those. I love watching it.”

Earlier this year, Allied and Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis said that even if Universal Pictures wanted to, a remake of Back to the Future could not go ahead without the approval of himself and writer Bob Gale.

Now, if only Hollywood would leave other classics along; like the 1987 timeless Dirty Dancing, which will see a remake on television in 2017, and Roadhouse, Patrick Swayze’s 1989 action movie of a bouncer hired to clean up a nightclub in the deep south of America. Yes, we’re Swayze nuts here at THN so please don’t even get us started on Point Break.

At least Disney are getting it [kinda] right with their live-action remakes of some of their animated classics. The Jungle Book was simply outstanding in every way this year, and we’re also hopeful for forthcoming redos of The Lion King and next year’s Beauty and the Beast. We’ll see how they turn out.

Marshall was talking at the launch of Jason Bourne on the home formats. You can read our review of that movie over here. The film is available to own now on download, DVD and Blu-ray.
