Tom Cruise‘s next film Mena has gone through a title change. The Doug Liman-directed movie is now being referred to as American Made, and has had its release date unfortunately pushed back – quite considerably actually. The film has been moved from January 6, 2017, to Friday, September 29, 2017, which puts it up against The Equalizer 2, which will star Denzel Washington. The film is now smack in awards season for 2017, so the move may actually be a positive one, so don;t worry too much.
American Made revolves around Barry Seal, a hustler and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history. Seal’s role in this major CIA covert operation led in turn to his involvement with the Medellin cartel, which ultimately embarrassed the Reagan White House after the Iran-Contra scandal became public. Obviously it’s all based on a true story.
Shooting ended in the fall of 2015, so the film will see a release nearly two years after its official wrap.
We’ll bring you the first trailer as it comes online.
