Earlier this week came the news that we will indeed get another three films in the Transformers series. We also got confirmation that those autobots will be hitting cinema screens for three consecutive summers from 2017 onwards. Not content with another trio of movies it appears that one of those robots in disguise may be getting their own movie.
Paramount studio’s chairman/CEO Brad Grey has announced that post Transformers V there will be a spinoff all about Bumblebee. Bumblebee was the loveable pal of Shia LaBeouf‘s Sam Witwicky in the first three films but took a bit of a backseat in number four.
The film will be claiming the June 2018 release which means that Transformers VI will actually be the June 2019 release, bringing the series total to 6 and to the originally thought total of 7. Details as to what we can expect from the spinoff film have not been disclosed. What we do know is that it will have a significant smaller budget than its counterparts. So less destruction, more character development? We can but dream…
It’s clearly a strategic move from the studio to rival the multiple movie schedules of Marvel, DC, and Lucasfilm, but whilst all of those properties have a wealth of material to harvest, surely this is one franchise that should surely want to be put to bed?
On the plus side the franchise is being overseen by executive producer Steven Speilberg.
