It’s not uncommon for a TV character to change his face. Though in the case of Hannibal‘s psychotic pig herder Mason Verger this idea is more apt than most – having been plied with drugs by cannibalistic lead Mads Mikkelsen he was then urged to slice off his mug and feed it to the dogs. Rather than spend hours in the make up chair, actor Michael Pitt opted to depart, leaving Joe Anderson to don the mangled prosthetic.
Anderson hasn’t been shy about his new role, posting images of himself on Instagram alongside various wry comments, the tone of which suggest he’ll be a perfect fit for the warped drama. These posts aren’t for the squeamish, so if you’re of a nervous disposition you might want to avoid this new shot of Anderson, that has since been taken down…
Before Anderson and Pitt Verger was portrayed by Gary Oldman in Ridley Scott’s 2001 movie adaptation. The Hannibal team appear to have to stuck quite closely to that look. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it I guess.
