If I’m honest, I don’t always ‘get’ musicals and although I understand their place – I get easily distracted if they’re on. However, INTO THE WOODS is definitely an exception and I’ve never been as excited to see something really impressive up on the big screen, despite initial reservations. What’s turned my doubt into positive thoughts is the whole cast and team putting Sondheim’s superb fantasy together.
It’s been confirmed there will changes from the stage version into the final film but these have been written by Sondheim himself. There’s a wonderful looking design going on and the cast all look like they fit the role, that includes perfect casting for Johnny Depp as the Wolf and James Corden as the Baker. Alongside those two, is a top A-List cast that includes Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, and Chris Pine.
This featurette goes behind-the-scenes and finally gives us some music – which is kinda important – and really does give us a visual treat. I’m hugely positive after this, and it’s long overdue. INTO THE WOODS is truly a unique animal and deserves its time out there for more to enjoy!
