After months of tedious rumours circulating the twittersphere, fan forums and generally speaking the entire internet, it seems as if we can finally get some confirmation as to Dwayne Johnson’s role in the DC cinematic universe. In a recent tweet from Johnson himself, we, and DC fans across the globe got what exactly what we needed:
“Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.” My honor to become.. #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics pic.twitter.com/Qk55eNf3R7
— Dwayne Johnson (@TheRock) September 3, 2014
For those who don’t know who Black Adam is, originally he was given his powers by a wizard named Shazam, but then became corrupted by them. Unable to revoke his powers, Shazam then banished Black Adam to the farthest star in the universe. In recent years, however, he is more of an anti-hero trying to clear his name. With this in mind, we’re not sure how Johnson will be playing him on-screen. We’re also unsure if it
Johnson is attached to the SHAZAM solo-project as a producer for New Line Cinema, and will feature JACK AND THE GIANT SLAYER scribe Darren Lemke. Whilst there is no director involved or release date set, it seems as if DC is ready to take its (current) one-film franchise even further into the cosmic-side of its comics. All we can help wonder is if it will feature as much destruction as MAN OF STEEL. That, and whether he’ll ever go toe-to-toe with Superman himself, after all, his power rivals that of Superman.
