Things are going absolutely bonkers over at Comic-Con, and like always we have a number of sudden casting changes and rumours. After the departure of Edgar Wright as director of ANT-MAN (news that seems to have only made me happy and nobody else), it now seems as though a number of actors, including Patrick Wilson, are also leaving the project. Wilson’s departure is due to a scheduling conflict, while actors Matt Gerard and Kevin Weisman have also left the project, but this is due to their characters being written out in the latest rewrites. The cast are expected to appear at Hall H later today (Saturday 26th), so expect some clarifications and changes to be announced then.
Meanwhile, after Benedict Cumberbatch fielded some questions concerning his possible involvement in DOCTOR STRANGE, rumours are now persisting that it is Joaquin Phoenix who is up for the role and Marvel are pursuing him aggressively in order to confirm his role at Comic-Con. Joaquin Phoenix seems to have been rumoured for the majority of comic book roles in recent years, including being the replacement for Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/The Incredible Hulk. Phoenix was also a favourite for the role of Lex Luthor in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, a role which later went to Jesse Eisenberg.
While ANT-MAN is definitely set as the start for Marvel’s Phase 3, DOCTOR STRANGE is yet to get a confirmation, but after a name check in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, it is looking very likely that we’ll be seeing the magical surgeon sooner rather than later.
ANT-MAN is released 17th July 2015. It stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Evangeline Lilly.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
