A few weeks have passed since the news was announced that a GOONIES sequel was in the works. It has now been confirmed that Steven Spielberg is attached the project. THE GOONIES director Richard Donner confirmed the news to TMZ, adding that Spielberg has come up with an idea for the sequel’s storyline.
The news must be a relief to fans of the 1985 original, the knowledge of Oscar-winning Spielberg who served as writer, producer and second unit director on the original Goonies film is attached to the follow-up. THE GOONIES is a much loved favourite and is still popular today, news of a sequel was met with some trepidation from fans but with the reunion of Spielberg and Donner fans can look forward to the follow-up.
What’s even more exciting is that Donner has shared that they’re trying to get the original cast back together. Whilst it’s tempting to believe the original cast will get back together it may be difficult, partly due to the fact that Jeff Cohen (Chunk) and Jonathan Ke Quan (Data) have both retired from acting.
