Elizabeth Banks Dances Her Way To ‘Pitch Perfect 2’ Directorial Debut

Soon to be seen (or rather heard) voicing the female lead building block Wyldstyle in THE LEGO MOVIE, Elizabeth Banks has taken another step forward in her increasingly impressive career. After co-starring in and producing Universal Pictures and Gold Circle’s 2012s sleeper smash hit musical comedy PITCH PERFECT, the stunning actress who will next month turn 40(!), will not only return to those same duties for the sequel but she will also make her feature-length directorial debut.

Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley confirmed:

“Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success. She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we’re thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2.”

Banks has helmed a couple of shorts in the last few years, as well a segment in the critically panned all-star comedy MOVIE 43, so she’s not throwing herself in at the deep end in regards to taking charge of a project. Although it’s not yet known where the plot will take the cappella group, the Bellas, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and a few of the original cast are expected to return.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
