I’m unfortunately not clued up to Ronald D. Moore’s acclaimed reboot of the sci-fi series of Battlestar Galactica, although I am ancient enough to remember the original series starring Lorne Green and Dirk Benedict. While that series has now come to an end, Moore’s latest project Helix, which first caught my eye after being plastered down the side of a lavish hotel during San Diego Comic Con, looks as if it could be right up my street.
Coming via Syfy, the show centres on a group of scientists heading the Centers for Disease Control who travel to a remote outpost in the Arctic to investigate a possible viral outbreak. We’ve a look at the first 15 minutes that suggest they’re all in for a terrifically traumatic time!
HELIX will begin airing in the US from the 10th January and stars Billy Campbell, Jeri Ryan, Hiroyuki Sanada, Kyra Zagorsky, Meegwun Fairbrother, Neil Napier and Mark Ghanime. Running at 13 episodes, the pilot will be a feature-length set-up. Channel 5 have picked up the rights in the UK and is due the week commencing the 18th January.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
