Jim Abrahams, David Zucker and Jerry Zucker’s comic creation Lt. Frank Drebin is one of my all-time favourites. Born of the genius, short lived series Police Squad!, the character superbly played by the late Leslie Nielsen was deservedly brought to the big screen in Paramount Pictures’ hugely successful THE NAKED GUN franchise. The first film was a benchmark in the simplicity of silliness and while sequels, THE SMELL OF FEAR & THE FINAL INSULT somewhat diminished over time, they still have their moments.
Well, it appears Drebin is making a comeback in the form of another natural comedian – Ed Helms. He’s signed on to star in a reboot of hilarity-filled franchise, which is currently being written by Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant.
Were you a fan of the original series or film franchise? We’d love to know what you guys think! Here’s a little gem of a clip to bring back those memories.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
