Oscar-nominated favourite Saoirse Ronan is rumoured to have turned down the role of The Scarlet Witch in Marvel Studios’ ensemble sequel THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. However, there is also word they’ve been quick in eyeing their replacement with another rising and acclaimed actress – Elizabeth Olsen. Olsen will next year move from the darling of indie hits MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE and LIBERAL ARTS to blockbuster beauty following upcoming roles in Spike Lee’s OLDBOY remake and Gareth Edwards’ GODZILLA.
If she accepts the role of the mind-manipulating mutant, she’s expected to adopt a “European” accent and appear opposite her GODZILLA co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson. He’s effectively nailed on for the role of twin brother Quicksilver in the Joss Whedon-directed superhero sequel. In the Marvel comic-books, the duo are the children of X-MEN’s Magneto but their backstories are to receive an overhaul, much to fanboy anger, in order to allow their inclusion on the Avengers team.
THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is set for cinemas 1st May 2015

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
