Elizabeth Debicki Heading To Richie’s ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’

THE GREAT GATSBY stunner Elizabeth Debicki (Jordan Baker in the recent Baz Luhrmann adaptation) is set to join MAN OF STEEL’s Henry Cavill and THE LONE RANGER Armie Hammer on the reboot of cult 1960s series THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., as a “femme fatale”. She has reportedly beaten off competition from Rose Byrne and Charlize Theron for the role, although that is possibly because (as harsh as it sounds), she’s a cheaper, still sultry alternative.

Cavill is set to portray Napoleon Solo (previously played by Hollywood legend Robert Vaughn), while Hammer will be his sidekick Illya Kuryakin (originally taken by David McCallum). Guy Richie will direct the film for Warner Bros., who are hoping to begin a MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE-style franchise. The film was also set to star ANNA KARENINA’s Alicia Vikander but we still await confirmation.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
