SHERLOCK has its new villain! It was revealed today by executive producer Sue Vertue that THE KILLING’s Lars Mikkelsen will be joining the third series of the hit BBC show, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
Mikkelsen will be playing Sherlock’s ‘new nemisis’ Charles Augustus Magnussen. Even though there hasn’t been much revealed on his character, it is more than likely that Magnussen will be based on Charles Augustus Milverton from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1904 short story THE ADVENTURE OF CHARLES AUGUSTUS MILVERTON, that saw Holmes and Watson confront the murderous blackmailer.
The news of the casting comes only a week after SHERLOCK’s Comic Con panel, in which some tidbits of series three was revealed. They certainly kept this news quiet didn’t they?
Lars Mikkelsen is best known for his role in the original version of THE KILLING and BORGEN.
