Andrew Garfield may have been so deeply committed to his role as Peter Parker in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and its upcoming sequel that we haven’t seen him in any other role since his acclaimed turn as Eduardo Saverin in 2010’s THE SOCIAL NETWORK. All that is about to change though as he first signed on to star in Martin Scorsese’s film SILENCE that is set for a 2015 release, and now he has signed on to star in the drama, 99 HOMES. 99 HOMES will be directed by Ramin Bahrani (MAN PUSH CART, AT ANY PRICE) and the synopsis for the film sounds quite tasty.
Andrew Garfield will play a man who loses his home to foreclosure. Desperate, he eventually finds work with the real estate broker who took his house and soon is not only evicting homeowners but helping the man embezzle money from the government. While his financial worries disappear, his conscience begins to break him down.
Plenty of similarities to his role in THE SOCIAL NETWORK combined with a very relevant story in terms of the current financial crisis. As excited as I am to see him in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 which I think has all the elements of a great comic book film, I think it’s nice that he’s set to return to more grounded dramatic work as well. His performances in THE SOCIAL NETWORK as well as THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS were spell binding, and this new role sounds absolutely perfect for him. We will bring you any updates on the further casting as they are announced.

Esben Evans is the Danish contingent on this site. He enjoys films, swearing a lot, and a nice pair of slacks.
