‘Have you ever seen nature inside out? When the sun stands at midday and it’s as if the world was going up in flames?’

Punchdrunk return to London following The Masque of the Red Death and their New York smash-hit Sleep No More with their biggest production to date. This major new co- production with the National Theatre, housed in a vast disused building in Zone 1, is inspired by Büchner’s fractured masterpiece Woyzeck and set in a seedy Hollywood underworld.

‘What was I dreaming about last night? A knife was it? Stupid things, dreams.’

Step into the world of Temple Pictures where the Hollywood studio system meets a forgotten hinterland filled with dreamers who exist at the fringes of the movie industry. Here, celluloid fantasy clings to desperate realism and certainty dissolves into a hallucinatory world. This theatrical journey follows its protagonists along the precipice between illusion and reality. Led by Felix Barrett, Punchdrunk is the internationally acclaimed theatre company whose previous award-winning productions include Faust, The Masque of the Red Death, Tunnel 228, It Felt Like A Kiss, The Duchess of Malfi, Sleep No More and The Crash of the Elysium. Their current New York show Sleep No More won a 2011 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience and a Special Citation For Design And Choreography at the 2010-11 Obie Awards.Felix Barrett, Artistic Director of Punchdrunk said:

‘We’ve wanted to do Woyzeck in London for many years and have finally found a building that lives up to the extraordinary atmosphere of Büchner’s masterpiece. We’re thrilled to be working with the National Theatre again whose support has been invaluable.’

Nicholas Hytner, Director of the National Theatre added:

‘Punchdrunk have provided some of my most exciting dramatic experiences over the past decade. We are delighted to be working with them again in London after a six-year gap while they wowed New York; I can’t wait to see their new theatrical adventure.’
