They say bad news comes in threes. Well, for period western thriller, JANE GOT A GUN, that appears to be true as the project has hit yet another brick wall. Following last weeks news that Michael Fassbender had to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts and yesterday’s shocking confirmation that director Lynne Ramsey failed to turn up for the first day of shooting, we’ve now learned Fassbender’s replacement, Jude Law, will not appear as the films’ antagonist.
Law has withdrawn citing that his contract states Ramsey would be directing. Does this suggest he has sympathy for the acclaimed WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN director? We’re still yet to find out the reasons behind the Ramsey’s abrupt exit, which today saw her quickly replaced with WARRIOR’s Gavin O’Connor. Production is set to resume on Thursday but now producers will need to move fast to recast Law’s role.
Where this puts cast members Joel Edgerton and Natalie Portman is anyones guess but we suspect they’re happy with O’Connor’s appointment. Edgerton was obviously the lead in his acclaimed Oscar-nominated sports drama. Portman is to play the title character, a young married women who runs away from her violent outlaw husband and teams up with a former lover in an effort to protect her family.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
