A couple of weeks ago we brought you word that J.J Abrams had confirmed he had been approached to helm the latest STAR WARS effort, following Disney’s acquisition of everything LucasFilm. He claimed:
“…because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version”.
It seemed the rumours of Matthew Vaughn’s involvement seemed to be nailed on following a slip from actor-friend Jason Flemyng.
Well, it now appears those words from the STAR TREK director were said to throw off fans, as word is coming out of Hollywood that Abrams will indeed helm STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, that’s being written by Michael Arndt with a plot said to include Luke Skywalker in some capacity.
This is breaking news so we’ll keep you posted as the story develops but sources at LucasFilm have ‘declined to comment immediately‘, suggesting an official announcement is coming soon!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
