While a follow-up to Stephen Sommer’s action-packed mess G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA was scheduled to hit very early in the summer, it was then delayed until August, only to finally announce an early 2013 release. It’s could spell trouble but it’s delays could also help the franchise out, this despite the first film only being a modest hit. It’s been rumoured that behind-the-scenes the studio heads saw this years emergence of Channing Tatum as a bankable movie-star, put the skids on the film hitting cinemas, due to the fact Tatum’s character was originally killed off in the opening set-up of John Chu’s sequel.
Paramount Pictures were quick to order reshoots and rewrites as they now see his major inclusion alongside new recruits Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnston as an even bigger bonus. So, expect him to return for part three if the film is an even bigger hit this time around.
In the meantime, while we wait for the film to arrive on the 29th March 2013 (although two days earlier in the UK), check out this new poster (and when comparing it to the previous design, suggests the above rumours are spot on) for G.I. JOE: DESPERATION… ABOMINATION… or something along those lines – but in 3D!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
