US DVD & Blu-Ray – New Release Tuesday

No need for a “witty” intro this week, the releases speak for themselves.

Christopher Nolan’s Bat Trilogy comes to an end as THE DARK KNIGHT RISES bustles it’s way onto DVD and Blu-ray for you to enjoy over and over. Available on extras packed Blu-ray or as part of a trilogy box set it is imperative either way you choose to buy it. As you can tell we absolutely love it, mainly because it “manages to hit harder emotionally at home than possible in a room with 50 others.” The film also helped Nolan’s trio top our Movie Trilogies listso what are you waiting for?

Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.

As if Batman’s farewell wasn’t enough, we’ve got a couple of Pixar classics for you as well. UP and FINDING NEMO appear on 5-disc (count’em) collectors editions each packed with enough extras to make your hair stand on end… possibly.

UP

By tying thousands of balloons to his home, 78-year-old Carl sets out to fulfill his lifelong dream to see the wilds of South America. Russell, a wilderness explorer 70 years younger, inadvertently becomes a stowaway.

FINDING NEMO

After his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.

Now for something for the older generation as HOPE SPRINGS fumbles it’s way nervously into your Blu-ray player. Featuring Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep as a couple trying to rekindle the romance of their formative years, along with Steve Carrell, this is sure to be a soft-centred joy.

After thirty years of marriage, a middle-aged couple attends an intense, week-long counseling session to work on their relationship.

Lastly we’re going into Terry Gilliam’s mind with BRAZIL’s Criterion Collection edition. The 1980s dystopian classic has never looked, or sounded better and comes with a raft of extras including a unmissable Terry Gilliam commentary. Standing up as if made yesterday BRAZIL even surpasses THE DARK KNIGHT RISES as this weeks must buy.

A bureaucrat in a retro-future world tries to correct an administrative error and himself becomes an enemy of the state.

We’ll be back next week for more home entertainment delights.

Sam is a bloody lovely lad born and raised in Bristol (he’s still there and can’t escape). Favourite films include THE LOST BOYS, DRIVE, FIGHT CLUB and COMMANDO, well pretty much any 1980s Arnie film you can throw his way…even RED SONJA. Sam once cancelled a Total Film subscription after they slagged off Teen Wolf. He resubscribed 2 days later.
