Moby Dick is one of those classic stories that is constantly being retold over and over again. The phrase “…is my white whale” is now part of of the English language, and every year expedition teams go in search of actual white whales. Probably. WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN director Lynne Ramsay is now gearing up to direct her own take on Herman Melville’s classic piece of literature, and this time it’s heading for space. Writer, and Ramsay’s husband, Rory Kinnear, will put pen to paper for the film titled MOBIUS. The film has been pitched as:
a psychological action thriller set in deep space, [where] a captain consumed by revenge takes his crew on a death mission fueled by his own ego and will to control an enigmatic alien.
I’m no fan of Lynne Ramsey, and I doubt this will be the tongue in cheek B-movie I’m imagining. However, I do still have a soft spot for complex psychological space operas such as SOLARIS (1972). But let’s face it, MOBIUS is never going to match up the twist on Moby Dick from 2011, AGE OF DRAGONS, in which Danny Glover and Vinnie Jones hunted a white dragon, so why bother?
