Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan are all set to star in an off-beat romantic comedy which has started pre-production with Wonderland Sound & Vision and Voltage Pictures. The film stars Evans as a man who meets Monaghan at a charity ball. He pretends to be a philanthropist and acts as a platonic friend so as to get closer to her and not arise the suspicions of her boyfriend. The film will be directed by Jim Reardon and starts production 26th October.
The screenplay by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair made the Black List and was also a 2011 Nicholl Fellowship Finalist. Producer Craig Flores from Voltage Picture had this to say:
With Reardon’s uniquely beautiful vision for the fantastical journey that these characters take, and Chris and Michelle’s intelligence and talent, there is no doubt that this film challenge audiences preconceived notions of a saccharine-laced romantic comedy.
The problem with romantic comedies is that you kind of have to wait to see how they are executed, as they all sound the same on paper. At least Evans and Monaghan are two interesting leads and hopefully the chemistry will win over audiences.
