It looks as if Chloe Moretz and Haley Bennett are the top contenders up for the lead role in the remake of CARRIE.
The film, inspired by the Stephen King novel of the same name, was originally released in 1976, directed by Brian De Palma and starred Sissy Spacek as Carrie, a troubled, bullied girl who hides a secret power.
The remake, said to be directed by Kimberly Peirce (BOYS DON’T CRY, STOP LOSS), has had rumours flying around it about who would be given the role as Carrie. A shortlist has been released featuring the names of such actresses as Chloe Moretz (KICK ASS), Haley Bennett (MARLEY AND ME), Dakota Fanning (TWILIGHT SAGA) and Lily Collins (MIRROR MIRROR). Shailene Woodley, who recently starred in THE DESCENDANTS, has apparently already turned down the role. Emily Browning (SLEEPING BEAUTY) and Bella Heathcote (who will star in DARK SHADOWS alongside Moretz) have also been featured on the list.
As for the role of Carrie’s mother Margaret, it is said that Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore have both be approached.
The shortlist for the role of Carrie is full of powerful, strong starlets but I think the top contenders may be Chloe Moretz and Dakota Fanning, due to their already shining Hollywood stars. Moretz has shown she can ‘kick ass’ while Fanning is currently starring as Jane, one of the menacing vampires in the TWILIGHT SAGA. However, the role may go to one of the lesser-known ladies, which would give them a boost into the acting stratosphere.
CARRIE, directed by Kimberly Peirce, is currently in pre-production.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
