Kevin Smith’s RED STATE received some early UK screenings at the Empire Big Screen in London this weekend, and around the press romm I was hearing very mixed things about the movie. I will obviously make up my own mind once it’s released on the 30th September. The flick stars Michael Parks, Melissa Leo, John Goodman and Michael Angarano. What I really wanted to talk about in this post is Smith’s next film, which he is currently hard at work on. HIT SOMEBODY is an ice hockey movie that looks like it may actually be split into two films after Smith admitted that it’s too big a story to tell in one movie. Apparently the director considered making his opus into a TV series but finally opted for a four hour movie split into two parts. It seems that the first part will be The first part will be about the main character’s childhood, and the sequel will focus more on his NHL days.
I can’t say that I know too much about ice hockeym and I don;t care too much for Smith’s recent output. Seann William Scott will star in the flick, which Smith is finding financing for himself. He will probably distribute the flick himself and promote from a tour bus, much like he has with RED STATE. It’s widely though the film or ‘films.’ will be his last with the filmmaker turning to build up his Podcast Empire SModcast.
