Universal Pictures and Working Title Films today announced that prinicpal photography has kicked off on Johnny English Reborn, a sequel to the 2003 original that starred Rowan Atkinson as the bumbling British spy. Atkinson returns, this time around with Gillian Anderson, Dominic West, Rosamund Pike and Daniel Kaluuya.
Directed by Oliver Parker (Dorian Gray, St Trinian’s) and written by Hamish McColl (Mr Bean’s Holiday) and William Davies (How to Train Your Dragon, Flushed Away) the film is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner with Chris Clark (The Guard, Johnny English).

In his latest adventure, the most unlikely intelligence officer in Her Majesty’s Secret Service must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos.
In the years since MI7’s top spy vanished off the grid, English has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. But when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinese premier’s life, they must track down the highly unorthodox agent. Now that the world needs him once again, Johnny English is back in action.
The film will shoot for 13 weeks in the UK and Hong Kong.
