The official weekend box-office numbers for September 10th-12th are in and it has been confirmed that Resident Evil: Afterlife was the bi winner opening at the number one spot with a massive $27.7 million in sales for the three days. The fourth movie in the franchise is the first to open at the top spot, and there is already some talk of a fifth from star Milla Jovovich and director Paul WS Anderson in today’s news. Sony were celebrating again with Takers, which managed to cling on to number two with another $6.1 million in the bank sending its total tally to just over $48 million.
Last week’s number one, The American, which stars George Clooney slipped all of the way down to number three with $5.8 million with Machete at four with $4.3 millon in cinema receipts.
Rounding out the top five was the Drew Barrymore and Justin Long rom-com Going The Distance, which held on with $3.8 million.
