WHAT MAISIE KNEW is a film I know virtually nothing about, so it’s always nice to bang up an article and discover a movie when penning an article and save it in that memory bank in your head to keep an eye out for as release day approaches.
This film, which stars Julianne Moore and Alexander Skarsgard is an adaptation of the 1897 novel by Henry James, and ‘depicts the complex inner workings of a family struggling through divorce as seen through the eyes of their 7-year-old daughter Maisie’. Maisie is played by newcomer Onata Aprile, while Moore appears as her mother, Suzanna, an aging rockstar engaged in a nasty custody battle with art dealing ex-husband Beale, played by our own Steve Coogan.
Skarsgard appears as Suzanna’s barman mate Lincoln. As you can see by the trailer, and by the aforementioned outline, events are set in the present day. The movie arrives later in the year from Millennium Films and here’s the trailer:
