The success of loveable UK sitcom GAVIN & STACEY has made James Corden a household name despite a number of previous eye-catching roles on stage and screen. Now we have word that former ‘Smiffy’ will headline Working Title’s new British festive comedy SCHOOL FOR SANTAS.
The film will focus on an unlucky father who desperately needs to find his inner Father Christmas and yuletide spirit in order to win back his kids (UK social workers must appear to be heartless buggers to the rest of the world). Corden had this to say about the role:
“All my life I’ve wanted to make a big family Christmas movie. To be making one with a company like Working Title Films is a dream come true. Re-teaming with Richard Bean and Kris Thykier is like all my Christmas’s have come at once. I can’t wait to start.”
The film has a script from playwright Richard Bean who collaborated with Corden on his Tony Award-winning stage role, One Man, Two Guvnors. Shooting will no doubt begin in the capital next month with a look to the release next Christmas. Anything remotely better than LESBIAN VAMPIRE KILLERS or GULLIVERS TRAVELS can only be classed as progress surely? We’ll watch with intrigue to see what it develops into!
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
