He’s only half-way through shooting his follow-up to Gary Ross’ apocalyptic blockbuster based on Suzanne Collins’ THE HUNGER GAMES first novel, but it appears Francis Lawrence has impressed enough people at Lionsgate to confirm him for MOCKINGJAY Parts 1 and 2. Known for his mixed-reaction blockbusters CONSTANTINE, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS and I AM LEGEND, Lawrence landed THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE after Ross declined the jobs’ rushed production schedule .
After the surprising box-office gross of the first film, Lionsgate, much like they did with tepid supernatural romance sleep-indcer THE TWILIGHT SAGA, are milking another franchise for all it’s worth by splitting Collins’ final novel MOCKINGJAY in two. So we are now certain the remaining franchise will be under the guidance of Lawrence. Your thoughts?
The likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Hutcherson, Stanley Tucci and Toby Jones will all return alongside franchise newcomers Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright and Amanda Plummer for all three of the films.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
