Drama RUST AND BONE has won the prestigious Best Film award at this year’s BFI London Film Festival. In an awards ceremony in the capital this evening, the Marion Cottillard and Matthias Schoenaerts starrer, which is directed by Jacques Audiar, beat off all competition to take the top prize at the festival, which ends on Sunday evening with the debut of Mike Newell’s retelling of the classic Dickens tale GREAT EXPECTATIONS.
In the other categories tonight, Benh Zeitlin won the Sutherland award for the most imaginative feature debut for his film BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD, while best British newcomer went to Sally El Hosaini for MY BROTHER THE DEVIL. The best documentary prize went to Alex Gibney’s MEA MAXIMA CULPA: SILENCE IN THE HOUSE OF GOD.
Real life couple, director Tim Burton and actress Helena Bonham Carter ,received British Film Institute Fellowships during the awards ceremony at London’s Banqueting House.
