It’s been common knowledge for quite some time now that Marvel’s Phase 2 will encompass not only four theatrical sequels and one new franchise, but also a TV series based on the exploits of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, or S.H.I.E.L.D. They are the guys lead by Nick Fury and who supported THE AVENGERS in the big screen blockbuster smash mega hit. Now obviously due to certain events in that film, it seemed unlikely that Clark Gregg would reprise his role as everyone’s favourite agent Phil Coulson, but we now have word that he will indeed headline the show. Marvel’s head of Television, Jeph Loeb, announced at the New York Comic-Con that Gregg would be reprising his role for the series, so we can expect it to take place before THE AVENGERS, or we may have flashbacks or holograms.
The man in charge of Marvel’s Phase 2, Joss Whedon, also weighed in:
We all love Clark Gregg, there’s no doubt about that. From before we made THE AVENGERS, we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death. … The fact of the matter is, as much as we love him, now that I’m really running Marvel, I like to keep a type of artistic integrity, which means we don’t stretch the bounds of reality. He’s headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was.
Whedon will also be co-writing the pilot. I love how successful Marvel have been with creating their own universe, and now that they have the rights back to DAREDEVIL and IRON MAN 3, CAPTAIN AMERIC: THE WINTER SOLDIER, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY are all on their way, the only way is up.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
