Now, perhaps I’m in the minority when I say that I bloody well loved THE PUNISHER. No, not the Dolph Lundgren 1989 disaster but the Thomas Jane effort from 2004. Not the best revenge-fuelled outing ever but a fun, violent flick with an intense Jane performance (aided by a great supporting cast) that was OTT yet tongue-in-cheek.
After working for months with director Jonathan Hensleigh on developing a potential sequel, Lionsgate deemed the follow-up needed a new direction – and a new star. The film we eventually got, PUNISHER: WAR ZONE, was a straight-to-DVD atrocity starring Ray Stevenson that came nowhere near the previous effort. With the problematic origin tale out the way, I felt a sequel with Jane could and would have been awesome.
Now it appears comic book fanatic Jane arrived at this years Comic-Con to promote a few projects he’s involved with – and also a very special treat . Along with STATE OF GRACE director and actor friend Ron Perlman, the trio have made a short ‘fan-made film’ with Jane back as nothing-to-lose vigilante Frank Castle. It’s called DIRTY LAUNDRY and fans of the Marvel hero are demanding a full-length feature with Jane back in the iconic skull T-shirt. So, the question on the agenda: Will we see the THE MIST actor return as THE PUNISHER? Demand it people!
Keep an eye on THN for updates as we’re also expecting to bring you the exclusive short very soon! (You can now see it our website HERE)

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
